Keep Believing: Taking Responsibility

Do you remember how Habakkuk wanted God’s help but wanted to negotiate with Him on how to get things done? The first two chapters of Habakkuk are basically the prophet’s temper tantrum at God’s answer.

Habakkuk 3:3-6 says, “God came from Teman, The Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His glory covered the heavens, And the earth was full of His praise. His brightness was like the light; He had rays flashing from His hand, and there His power was hidden. Before Him went pestilence, and fever followed at His feet. He stood and measured the earth; He looked and startled the nations. And the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills bowed. His ways are everlasting” (NKJV). Did you catch that? God’s ways (not your ways, not my ways) are everlasting.

There’s no juking God’s judgment. Hebrews 9:27 says, “And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment…” This is an important thing to note, especially because our culture continues to minimalize personal responsibility and magnify personal victimization. It isn’t until the third chapter of this book that Habakkuk takes responsibility! Thankfully, responsibility moved him from confusion to clarity.

Let’s talk about moving from confusion to clarity! You’re not going to find clarity amidst the chaos going on right now. And even though Habakkuk wanted the upheaval and chaos in Jewish society to calm down, it only got worse. This was because the people needed to make changes on the inside (heart changes). If you want to see your own heart change, you have to move from fear to faith. Examine your heart today, and see if it’s right with God. If it’s not, take responsibility and work on your heart! This will lead you to clarity.
