Which are you?
On the one hand, I don’t know if there has ever been a more critical point for our country than right now. Things look pretty bleak at times.
We’re a nation of thermometers.
On the other hand, as is always the case when we come to a fork in the road—we can always decide to turn toward God instead of away. And even though the nation is massing at the fork, most have not yet made a final decision on which way they’ll turn.
There are still some thermostats among us.
Figured out which you are yet?
A thermometer is only useful for telling you what’s already going on. There are a few things about a thermometer that make it unlikely thermometer people will ever be used greatly of God.
- Thermometer people follow the temperature of culture
- Thermometer people change with culture
- Culture usually moves away from God unless something major happens
- Thermometer people are followers (followers aren’t always bad. Jesus followed the will of His Father. Who are you following?).
- Thermometer people overheat and cause friction.
- Thermometer people grow cold and become the frozen chosen.
- Thermometers tend to hang out with sick people.
Much better to be a thermostat than a thermometer.
- Thermostat people set the temperature of the culture around them.
- Thermostat people are leaders but they know when to follow too (i.e. They always follow God).
- Thermostat people set the temp for high passion, but seldom overheat.
- Thermostat people know when to cool off but never grow cold.
- Thermostat people always set the temperature toward God, not away.
Thermostat or Thermometer—which are you?
