• Americans do some interesting things with our holidays—Labor Day is no exception. Rather than taking the day off, many people give a special honor to “labor” and use the time to catch up on that that “labor” they feel so buried by. All this despite the fact that Labor Day was founded to give workers and their families a festival day! It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country. But almost to add insult to injury, retailers use this supposedly work free day to take advantage of large numbers of potential customers free to shop, Labor Day has become an important sale weekend for many retailers in the United States. Some claim it is second only to “black Friday.” But, since retail is the biggest industry in the US, that means it’s one of the hardest work days for people in the retail industry of the entire year!
• Now take the church. Labor day isn’t just a day off of work anymore—now it’s a day off church too. That’s right, Labor day is one of the lowest attended Sundays of the year—typically. That’s why I was thrilled that it was one of our highest! Now, let me get one thing straight—this isn’t a post against ‘going away for Labor day’– the Singletons almost always do. It’s more of an observation that a lot of Americans may see church as a bit of a drudgery like they do their jobs. Soooo glad Impact isn’t like that. We have a ton of people who say that their time at Impact each week is their favorite time of the week! How that must warm the heart of God to hear His children talk like this! And some families even ask for the sermon outline and notes so they can have a family devotional while on vacation! Don’t you love that?! I do! More importantly, God does!
• I was also pleasantly surprised that we didn’t get the Labor Day ghost town affect at Impact this past weekend. In fact, our 11:00 had quite a few people and the place was rocking! Can’t wait to see the net affect of the Grand Opening on our brand new church in the weeks ahead. God is really up to something special at Impact Church!
• Remember to invite the lost for this coming weekend. The gospel will go out and people will be saved. All we need to do is get’m there!
