Over the next couple of weeks most of my posts will be related to the Advent season.
The order of Advent is typically:
Week 1: Hope
Week 2: Love
Week 3: Joy
Week 4: Peace
Last week we kicked it off @ Impact Church with our series, “Christmas Reset” and the first message entitled, “Resetting Hope.” I think it was a really good start toward the goal of getting everyone @ Impact to see that it’s not enough to simply make Jesus the number 1 priority in our lives. We need to center our entire life around Him!
Resetting Hope is a great place to start since there’s little motivation to do much of anything without hope. And even when we do have some hope—in what or who are we placing that hope? Over the last several years some old standbys have really let a lot of people down:
– The stock market
– A spouse
– Kids
– Parents
– Friends
– Leaders
– Church
And that’s because none of these comes without risk.
– The stock market can and often does CRASH!
– A spouse can cheat
– Kids can rebel or never grow up
– Parents can neglect
– Friends can betray
– Leaders can go bad
– Churches can stop following God
So where, what, or who can we place our trust in that won’t let us down?
Glad you asked!
There can be but one answer—place your hope in the one who cannot lie, betray, undermine, make fun of, do evil, or even sin AT ALL, in ANY WAY.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Reset your hope on true north. Reset all hope to Jesus.
