More than perhaps any other question, as a pastor I hear something along the lines of this; “How can I hear from God?” There are a variety of ways people ask this,
- How can I know God’s will for my life?
- How do I know what God wants me to do?
- Does God speak audibly?
- Will God make it obvious?
But they all boil down to one thing—none of us wants to go through life without ever hearing from God.
No one.
What about the atheist, pastor Rob?
No one. Including the atheist. Seriously, you don’t think an atheist would love more than anything to have God step out of what they perceive to be fantasy land—and into their lives in a very real and tangible way? Of course they would. Most who don’t believe in God would tell you it isn’t because they’re hateful, spiteful people, but rather, because they just can’t see the “evidence” (as they like to call it) for Him—not because they don’t wish it were so.
Then imagine their sorrow and anguish one day when they stand before the very God they denied and have to explain why? And add to that the crushing blow of realizing that it was never a matter of the God who does not speak, but a matter of the human who does not listen!
God is always speaking.
Tomorrow I’ll tell you where I got all this.
Are you listening?
