Think of the greatest movies of all time. Aren’t most of the epic tales about overcoming? Here’s a few:
- Gone with the Wind
- Star Wars
- Raider of the Lost Ark
- Lord of the Rings
- Braveheart
- Rocky
- Raging Bull
- The Wizard of Oz
- Casablanca
- It’s a Wonderful Life
- Shindler’s List
Those are just the first ones that came to mind—and not in order. There are many more. One thing should strike you about each though. They all have elements of overcoming (Maybe I should have included, “Against All Odds”).
But real life doesn’t always work out that way.
Sometimes the hero doesn’t win—the villain does. Sometimes everyone isn’t rescued—they die (like on the TV show, “Lost”). Occasionally the main character overcomes one thing only to be saddened by something else (Remember the movie, “Castaway?”).
I know of only one guaranteed win—one story the end of which was written long ago.
HIS story. The story of Jesus taking on sin and death—and winning! It had all the elements of a great story…tension, looking as though the good side would lose, betrayal, denial, desertion. But the best part was the last minute victory we call Easter!
As Easter approaches, Southbrook Church wants to hear your stories of overcoming! If you have such a story or know someone who does—have them go to this link, HERE, — wait for the “Overcome” slide and click on it to send in your story. Or, you can just send your story to mystory@southbrookchurch.com. Over the weeks leading up to Easter we will be highlighting some of these stories and celebrating our great God of resurrections!
I’m pumped about this three week series with messages entitled:
Week One: Ghostwriter
Week Two: Author God
Week Three (Easter): The Greatest Story Ever Told
Begin asking God now about who you should invite to this series and especially to Easter @ Southbrook Church!
See you this weekend for Impact: Mark the Community!
