In so many ways this missions trip is showing me what needs to be the gateway to international missions for Southbrook Church. How can it not be Haiti?
Often called the “black hole” of missions because it seemed to absorb help and resources without ever showing much promise. Well, aside form being a terrible reason to avoid it, that should be the very reason we embrace it—the need is tremendous and receptive hearts to the gospel—never-ending. And isn’t the goal of missions to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the lost? Of course it is. And in this voodoo ridden, witchcraft influences nation the harvest is plentiful. But the other reason for Southbrook to embrace this mission is that it is right at our backdoor. Seriously, it’s a very quick flight down here, and our American dollar still stretches far—can’t say that about too many places anymore!
But the bottom, bottom-line, is that the Lord is calling us to Haiti, and it will be part of the biblical progression so clearly laid out in Acts chapter 1 verse 8…
“…you will receive(A) power(B) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and(C) you will be(D) my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and(E) Samaria, and(F) to the end of the earth.”.”
I’ve never focused much on the first four words of that verse but it would be a good idea to change that! Want some of that God power? All you have to do is obey. He told us to go.
Who’s ready?
