A Great Way to Spend a Saturday

DSC00072

This past Saturday the Singleton clan piled into my newly repaired 4Runner and headed off to an old warehouse in South Caroline.

And what did we do there?

We did all things SHOES!

  • Unpacked them
  • Broke down the boxes they came in
  • Paired them up
  • Sorted them according to size
  • Laced them up
  • Tied them together
  • And put 30 pairs to a box marked according to size

600+ times!

And it was a blast! I’m serious. Hearing about where they were going and being a part of getting shoes to the poor who have no shoes felt wonderful! Even better was the fact that all of us from Southbrook will be hand-delivering these shoes to people in many Myan villages in Mexico near Belize! And it’s the way we will deliver them that has me most fired up!

First we will wash the recipient’s feet. Then we will put socks on them, then the brand new shows and finally we will lace them up—all rather reminiscent of Jesus in the upper room the night before He was crucified (see HERE for what I’m referring too). But the best part is what we are saying to these precious people while we wash their feet and lace up their shoes…

We will be sharing the love of Christ—literally—and spiritually. For the roughly 8 minutes that it takes to complete the physical ministering we will also share the gospel message with each person.

That flat out pumps me up!!!!

Do me a favor…pray for our time.

  • for the harvest
  • for wisdom
  • the right words
  • boldness
  • safety
  • and a fire that will spread all the way back to Southbrook Church and beyond!

These “Skull Shoes” had to be weeded out—not exactly the mesage we were shooting for.
