Every time our family goes to the beach we see at least one of these guys. This time was no exception—except that this dude may have been the most serious beach prospector I’d ever seen! He was so decked out I had to run in and find my camera and snap a quick picture or two. I have another shot that shows even more of his equipment.
He had the following equipment available to help him find the elusive…the elusive…hmmm…what is it these people hope to find anyway?
- He had the top of the line metal detector (These things can be over $1000!).
- His “scoop” looked to be in the $200 range (yes, I looked it up. I’m not a closet enthusiast).
- His net was maybe $30
And what would he most likely find on the beach?
- Coke cans?
- some loose change?
- a room key?
- a clasp for a boogieboard?
- Maybe a broken and discarded piece off an old surf rod?
Let me just sum it up. You find JUNK! And you waste time.
Has anyone ever found anything valuable?
Probably.
And out of several million people who drop several bucks a week for lottery tickets there’s ONE who wins. We’re talking about one in a million odds. If that’s your thing, knock your self out but I’ve got better things to do with my life.
You see, I believe this life is just a dress rehearsal for all of eternity and that only what we do for Christ Jesus really lasts. The rest of it?
Time wasters.
Now listen, I’m not tooting my own horn. I ‘veg’ once in a blue moon like anyone else—but not as a hobbie. For the most part, the things we do need to have purpose. Life’s too short to approach it any other way.
Just a thought.
