We Americans love our Independence.
In most cases it’s been a good thing. As in the following:
•   When another country is trying to take over
•   When another country is trying to extend their sovereignty from a couple thousand miles away (as in the case with England – right up until 1776)
•   When one group seeks to enslave another.
•   When we are playing an individual sport
But are we to conclude that “Dependence†is always a bad thing?
That would be a shame – especially when it comes to our spiritual lives. Here’s where “independence†is an absolute killer:
•   When we want to know God
•   When we think we don’t need God
•   When we think we know better than God
•   When we (Christ Followers) seek to live the Christian life as Lone Rangers
•   When we’re living a sinful life yet want God to be ‘nice to us’ anyway.
Oh the irony!
When it comes to our relationship with God, turns out real independence only comes through dependence on Him.
Just saying.
