In the movie, “The Last of the Mohicans,†it was a tragedy that a people group/tribe/nation vanished from the face of the earth. But lately, I’ve discovered a situation where getting rid of a certain tribal group can be the healthiest/best thing for you.
I’m talking about the “Wolf Tribe.†Perhaps you’ve heard of them? They strike camp in churches (exclusively) and seldom live anywhere else. They only relocate when there’s nothing left to devour where they’re at.
They know no other way of life.
That’s why they have to go.
Perhaps you think I’m being too harsh? Maybe we could negotiate? Perhaps level some sanctions on them if they don’t listen? Or, I know, we could enlist the help of 5 other churches and form a committee to address the situation. We could call it, oh, I don’t know…How bout the ‘Six Party Talks?’ Surely with all those opinions in the room the wolves will see that they’ve caused a lot of dissension and they’ll change their wily ways! Right?
Wrong.
The Bible says,
Proverbs 30:14 Don’t be greedy, merciless and cruel as wolves, Tearing into the poor and feasting on them, shredding the needy to pieces only to discard them.
And,
Ezekiel 22:27, Her princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain.
And,
Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
And finally (thought there are plenty more), Acts 20:29, I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;
Wolves only know how to tear apart. They devour and worst of all, they recruit. Wherever there is one wolf, others will soon appear. They call it a pack.
Firneds, as a pastor, I can tell you that the unity of the flock that the Lord has put me in charge of is first and foremost in my mind. He’s charged me to take care of his sheep. That means:
•   Finding them (Evangelism)
•   Feeding them (Discipleship)
•   Disciplining them (Correction)
•   Gathering them (Lifegroups)
•   Pointing them in the right direction (toward God and giving glory to him in all they do)
Too many things to list really but not tough to remember. Just love them and the rest comes naturally.
But the one I left off does need to be mentioned…
Keep driving off the wolves until there are no more left.
And then be on the look out for more.
There will always be more.
Even when you think you’re down to the last of the Mohicans…
You’re not.
