Here is a reposting of the “Baptism…Why Wait” post.
Why am I reposting this?
Because the links were not active and explanations not that great…now they are!
By the way. At the confrence we went to last week at, http://www.newspring.cc/ they just had a baptism celebration. The key word, by the way, is, ‘celebration.’ They baptized over 400 people! Here’s a shot of that incredible event!
Southbrook Church is having a baptism celebration this weekend. These are the flat out most AWESOME celebrations we do! They are my favorite services other than the ones that see God’s family grow because of new converts.
How do you know if you need to be a part of this?
Good question.
Have you placed your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?
Then you are now a part of the family of God and the very first thing the Lord asks you to do as a new believer is to profess Him before others in baptism.
Why in baptism?
Good question.
Because it is a perfect illustration of what Jesus did for you and of what you believe. Look at this passage in Romans 6:3-11,
3-5That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we’re going in our new grace-sovereign country.
6-11Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection.
(The Message)
There it is. There are many reasons why we should be baptized but none better than just because the One who died for you and gave you life…asked you to.
So, here’s what I want you all to do. If you were one of the 41 people who committed their life over the “Unwrapping Christmas” series, or the 35 in the “G-Force” series that followed, or the 39 in the “Majoring on the Minors” series after that…OR the 140 when Clayton King asked you to, Take Up Your Cross for Christ – then you should be there with bells on this Sunday! Ok, skip the bells, but be there!
Also, if you have questions please go to itunes (podcast section) type in Southbrook (there are now TWO churches that come up — Ours is the one with the small b in Southbrook) and download the 3rd message in the G-Force series. It was all about small groups AND baptism. All your questions should be answered there. You can also go to our website at www.southbrookchurch.com and click on the podcast button and it will take you straight there.
Let’s really make this weekend a blowout for Christ!
Come get dunked for Jesus!
Invite everyone you know because this is a HUGE DAY FOR YOU!
See you all there!
