- Great day at GCC today! It’s July, yet attendance is up! Great considering the following retweet of DL Moody I put out earlier,
“Church attendance is as vital to a disciple as a transfusion of rich, healthy blood to a sick man.” (D.L. Moody) #stopdatingthechurch
- Next Monday morning at 6:15 am at Grace Community Church (upstairs in room, 201) we will have our first ever, Monday Morning Man Up! This is for men from junior high to seniors and is a time of fellowship and gathering to learn what God’s Word has to say about men and leadership. The teaching goes to 7:15 am. What a great way to start each month! Hope to see many of the men of GCC next week. Oh, it wouldn’t hurt to bring a friend either!
- Today in Nehemiah we talked about a tough but solid principle of leadership that we absolutely have to understand if we are ever going to do great things for God. Here it is, “Not everyone in your church will be thrilled with the vision! Move with the movers.” Why is that unpopular? You ask. Because some are more concerned with making sure everyone is comfortable and happy than they are with actually living their life on mission for Jesus! Seriously. Look at how careful we seem as a culture to make sure no one is ever offended (even by the truth of the Bible, even though Jesus was actually referred to as a stumbling block [BTW, that’s 1 Peter 2:8—look it up!], even though some very, very vital truths—I’m talking life or death truths—need to be told so that people can avoid eternal separation from God in a very real place called, hell). Seems some would rather make sure they live our lives like The Goofy Gophers—remember them?
They never got anything done because they were only concerned with saying the right things and being sugary sweet—even if a time sensitive emergency demanded their immediate attention! But that’s like having the cure for cancer in a vile in your pocket while all the while watching your best friend die of the disease over long excruciating months—right before your very eyes. Why don’t you just give him the vile? Well, because you are embarrassed that people will make fun of you for claiming to have the cure. You’re concerned that they might say you are cruel to even bring it up. They may say that a simple antidote will never be found and that “everyone knows no cure exists.” But the only problem is, you know it works. You’ve seen it. You’ve been told of this cure from God Himself. And God Himself stands behind it!
Still, it’s embarrassing and ‘offensive’ to some to talk about it. So you don’t.
Instead, you always fluff your friend’s pillows, bring him food, visit his bedside and read to him. In fact, do everything you an think of to make his last days more comfortable…except one thing—the ultimate thing. You never give him the cure.
Question. Are you really the best kind of friend?
I think we all know the answer to that.
Listen, some of God’s truths are tough to receive, but all of God’s truths are good for us! Want to do great things for God? Move with the movers!
- Stay tuned Grace…we will be announcing the Sunday dates for our ‘vision meetings’ by next week. If you are in leadership, serve in a ministry, lead a life group, or are a covenant member of GCC—please plan on being at one of the two vision Sundays. I promise, you’ll be glad you did! And I will too—remember, ‘People are always down on what they are not up on!’
- I’m pumped about what God is doing in and among the people of GCC! The best is yet to come!
