- Part two of our series, “The Wall” was today. This is our study through the book of Nehemiah. I personally think Nehemiah is the greatest book on leadership, period. However, some people read this great book and can’t quite get the ‘leadership angle.’ They just don’t see it. If that’s you I think I can help. You see, we are conditioned today to think of great leadership books as the ‘step by step’ offerings we so often see on the New York Times Best Seller’s list. But the problem with the, ‘Five Steps to Becoming a Superstar Leader’ renditions is that effective leadership doesn’t have a ‘one size fits all’ template that anyone can apply to any situation. In the right situation and setting, those hypothetical 5 steps might just do the trick, but in the wrong setting and with the wrong mix of people and circumstances—those same steps might spell disaster! One arena where I see this all the time is with ‘church growth’ conferences. Oten times pastors will return home form these conferences with the belief that all they need to do is copy Rick Warren and the Saddleback approach, or Bill Hybels and the Willowcreek approach and Voila! Instant megachurch.
More like, “Voila, mega disaster!”
Leadership is a whole lot more than a formula. It has to do with character, courage, competency and vision. It has to do with insight, wisdom, and selflessness…and a whole lot more. That’s why Nehemiah is so good. It goes into all of these and more. I’m so looking forward to God raising up a whole crop of leaders at GCC from this summer’s study through Nehemiah!
- Hey men of GCC…remember when I told you this morning that this book was especially for you and to look for special opportunities throughout this series to take your leadership to the next level? Well here’s a heads up on some of those opportunities.
First, I will be starting up a once a month, Monday morning get together breakfast for men of all ages in August. It will be called the “Monday Morning Man Up!” If you are interested in learning how you can grow into a mighty man of God as a husband, father, young man, co-worker, etc. Join us on the First Monday of each month for donuts, fellowship and challenging teaching from God’s Word as it relates to biblical manhood.
The first one will be August 3rd at 6:00 am for donuts and coffee, 6:15 – 7:45 for teaching and fellowship…and every first Monday of the month thereafter.
- How are you doing with the YouVersion (Bible App) study through Nehemiah? You should be on day 9 at this point. Once again, if you do not have the app, go to the app store for your phone or tablet and get the Bible app. Then search their Bible Reading Plans until you find, “Restart—Stepping Out in Faith.” From there, set a starting date and have the app set to send you a daily reminder. That’s all it takes. It’s easy. Let’s get as many people on the same page with this as possible!
