Hey Ma’am? Sir? Young person? Now that you’ve been baptized, what next? Does it all end here, or is this where it truly begins?
This past Sunday at Impact Church, we had our very first baptism service. 44 individuals stepped forward to identify with Jesus HIS WAY. And this is important, because we Americans tend to only want to do things OUR WAY.
So, as I stated already—what now? If receiving Christ as Lord and Savior is much more than a “Get out of Hell Free” card, then isn’t baptism more than just our public declaration of faith in Christ?
Yep—it represents a lot more-like our belief and gratitude for three specific things:
1. His death on the cross for us
2. His willingness to experience death as represented by three days in the tomb
3. His victory over death in the resurrection
That it?
Nope, not quite. There are at least 2 more things I can think of right off the bat.
It also represents one more death–the putting to death of our ‘old nature.’ And, it points to the kick off of a whole new life! It signifies a complete about face from the way many of us preciously lived as lost, sinful, self absorbed beings. Through baptism we also declare to the world that we are now living for an entirely different vision with completely new marching orders.
After baptism, we’re all on a mission from God!
Question? Now that you’ve officially kicked off your mission, where do you go to report for duty?
I’m glad you asked.
