Church or Movement?

Churches we have. By last count, (2010 to be exact) there are about 350,000 churches in America. About 314,000 of those are protestant. 24,000 are Catholic and the rest are non-Christian in nature.

Wow! That’s a lot of churches!

And I’ve planted several myself. Yet here I am venturing out one more time against all odds (other than the one that counts—God’s) more convinced than ever that God is calling me to plant one more. Not just one more church, mind you—something different.

Entirely different.

And it ought to scare me—because, in case you haven’t heard, church plant odds are not all that great. More than 70% of all church plants fail within the fist 2 years! And, of the 30 percent that remain, most will soldier on for a couple more years with less than a hundred people before the discouragement gets to be too much and they finally disband or merge with some other church.

Like I said—not a real ‘feel good story.’

So, why Impact Church?

That’s a fair question. And, if your interested, I hope to make a compelling case over  the next several posts. And, just as a teaser, let me just go ahead and throw water on some of the church planting mania currently out there…

Do we really need another church in the Charlotte area?

No. Plain and simple…No.

But we need Impact. Desperately. Immediately. Powerfully.

Before it’s too late.

Stay tuned—I’ll tell you why.
