Monday Evening Mind Dump

  • Another great week @ Impact! I know I say that a lot, but every week God does something special here! I’m not used to seeing a full house on holiday weekends, but it was another large service and people really seem to be embracing the unique and exciting vision that God has given to Impact.
  • This week we went over our third of five ‘G’s’ with Grow. Grow, as you might have guessed, has to do with the sanctification of the believer. Sanctification is just a ten cent word that refers to the process of becoming more like Jesus Christ. As Christ followers we are ‘disciples’ (just another word for ‘followers’) of the living God. That means we mimic him and as we spend quality time with Him through reading His Word and in prayer we should naturally desire the things that He does.
  • Remember gang—we don’t want to be spiritual munchkins, but in order to grow, God says we need to become more and more like Him. Step one in that is to simply trust Him for salvation. Two is to learn to trust him in every area of your life until the day you die. Three, help each other by doing life together with other brothers and sisters of Impact Church in an Impact Lifegroup. If it helps you remember, just think of the Wizard of Oz stuff I talked about. Remember the Ruby Red Slipper clicks? 1. Quality time with Jesus (Just you and God alone. Listen by reading His Word. Talk through prayer) 2. Obey Jesus (Do what He tells you without arguing!). 3. Mimic Jesus like He did His Father (WWMFD – What Would My Father Do?).
  • Thought a lot about how dangerous it is to simply have knowledge of God’s Word without application—you end up being a mental Munchkin. However there are four very real benefits to knowing and doing His Word. Remember them? One again, from the land of Oz…

  1. The Lion needed courage (Applying what you know will strengthen your faith). Acts 20:32
  2. The Scarecrow needed a brain (Applying what you know will help guide your decisions (i.e. ‘wisdom). Psalm 119:105
  3. The Tin Man needed a heart (As we apply what we learn in God’s Word, it changes our heart.
  4. Toto – Man’s best friend. Everyone knows a dog is loving and loyal to the end. They can make a crummy day bright and cherry. Applying God’s Word will enhance you life! Joshua 1:8

Well gang, that ought to keep you busy for today. Tune in tomorrow to see the Champion of the Week!

Oh, BTW, for those of you who thought I made up my little Lollypop Guild song. Here it is!
