Seven of the Dumbest Things Chrisitans Say — Statement # 2

If you missed the first dumb thing, click here to read about it.

Now, are you ready for a doosey in stupidity? Brace yourself. Here it is…

As Long as We’re Sincere, God will Honor It.

Some of you are thinking, That doesn’t sound all that bad. Whoever says that, at least they’re sincere…

That you? Then this post is for you especially. Read on!

Again, As Long as We’re Sincere, God will Honor It.

Not true. If we’re sincerely vile, God will punish it. If we’re sincerely stupid, God will often step back and let us fall flat on our face to learn a lesson. If we’re sincerely wrong, we’ll hurt our self and others. And even if we’re sincerely right, God may still allow pain and heartache to strengthen our faith and we may still suffer simply because it’s a fallen world we live in.

It’s foolish to see a formula where there is none. And the pseudo formula many Christians are seeing here is that, “sincerity ought to merit at least a few brownie points.”

  • It’s the trophy for trying theory
  • The self esteem trumps responsibility theory
  • The truth is relative theory
  • The he/she has a good heart theory

These “theories” sound good until people are hurt and lives are ruined because dealing with our sin took a back seat to sincerity.

Listen, just because we attach a little good will to a bad idea, doesn’t somehow make it right. And bad beliefs that come complete with a warm fuzzy are just bad beliefs with baggage.

What do you get when you dress up an ogre in a suit?

An ogre

And the same thing applies to sin. We can camouflage it, rename it, water it down, and tell ourselves it’s fun but the road sin takes us on always ends the same. And the Bible tells us where that is in Proverbs 14:12,

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”

God may look at the heart, but that doesn’t mean He overlooks the brain!

Sincerity is good friends. By all means, put a little feeling and passion into your life, but attach it to what’s right as well. Otherwise, you’ll be sincerely disappointed when you stand before God one day.

BTW, for the three of you on planet earth who do not know who the woman in the picture is–she’s the wicked queen/witch in the hit TV show, Once Upon a Time. A reoccurring theme for her seems to be, “smile and just pretend to be misunderstood.” Funny thing–It actually works in the short run on poor unsuspecting saps–over and over again. But it’s not working for her. It’s killing her very soul.

Hmm, Do witches even have souls?

Well, she apparently still thinks she has one and she’s determined to make it last by sprinkling sincerity on the last shadowy remnants of it. Think she’s a good role model?

Good luck with that. At least you’re sincere.
