You’re not ‘Chicken’ if you defend marriage!
For the last couple of weeks, Chick-Fil-A has come under enormous attack for, wait for it…
Saying they agree with God on marriage being only between one man and one woman. For this, politicians and Hollywood “stars” (as well as well known musicians) have demanded they be punished, boycotted, kept from expanding and worse. At first I wondered if this would just become another exercise in Christian capitulation but then millions prayed, former Governor Mike Huckabee got involved, pastors stood up (though sadly, not all) and the tide slowly began to turn.
Well, that tide has become a tidal wave, and my prayer is that Christ followers across our nation will see this as the wake up call it truly is and start standing for God’s truth no matter what.
And what is God’s design for marriage?
Genesis 2:21-25, “21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made[h] into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”[i]
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
This biblical truth was reiterated by Jesus in defending marriage from the self-righteous Pharisees. When questioned on divorce Jesus responded:
Matthew 19:3-5
3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?” 4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
This isn’t even a tough one, friends. Marriage was God’s idea. Chick-Fil-A didn’t invent marriage. They’re just defending it!
