Loved seeing our church join with others to “Mark the Community” with the love of Christ. Friday night they gathered at our Southbrook Weddington Campus to pray for God to ignite the hearts of believers everywhere through the message being taught (It was Matt Chandler this particular night). Spending some time with Matt and Lauren Chandler was also a highlight as I got to talk with him before he preached and pray with he and Lauren. Then, Matt did what Matt always does—brought the hard hitting truth of God’s Word in a loving and passionate way! If you are a podcast listener, you ought to give his messages a listen. You won’t be disappointed!
Can’t wait to look through the final batch of “Mighty Men” applications! God is going to move greatly through these men in 2012! We should finish going through the applications next week and send out the schedule for the remainder of the year the following week.
This coming weekend is my second favorite thing we ever do @ Southbrook Church—a baptism celebration! If you’ve placed your trust in Christ Jesus for salvation then your next step is to publicly identify with Him through baptism. Sign up online or just show up on Sunday! We will have everything you need ready and waiting for you! Make sure to invite your friends and family to be a part as well—it’s a HUGE day in the life of every believer!
I preached part 2 of our 3 part series, “Upgrade” today. I talked about how there’s no need to conduct train wreck experiments with our lives in order to come to conclusions God already tells us will happen—Men like Solomon already tried the Health, Wealth, and Prosperity experiment (and he was infinitely more qualified to do it than any of us will ever be) and failedmiserably. Aren’t you glad we can avoid so many traps by learning from those who went before us? Don’t make the same mistake he did—instead, chase God over material things and cheap thrills. Matthew 6:33 tells us to “seek FIRST the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you.” See? By living for God, all our needs will be taken care of and often blessings thrown in on top of it all. That’s a better route than the one Solomon took. For more information on how Solomon’s life experiments ended, look at the very beginning of the book of Ecclesiastes as well as the end—nough said!
After next week we start a brand new series called, Genome! All I’m gonna say about it is that I’m super pumped about what it could mean for our church if people heeded the message of this powerful series. Wanna know more? Show up—all three weeks of it.
