Sunday Evening Mind Dump

  • Everyone needs a vacation sometime, but I always end up missing my Southbrook family whenever I’m away. This times was no exception—you all had way too much fun while I was gone!
  • Clayton brought the Word with heat (as he usually does) and 45 decisions were made for Jesus Christ! Tell me, does that EVER get old? I really don’t think so! If you were one of the 45, your next step is to identify with Jesus publically through baptism. Check the Southbrook Worship guide for the date of the next one! Welcome to God’s family!
  • Ever praise God for the little things? My son went surf fishing with me for two of our days at the beach and this was the first year he manned his own rod from beginning to end. It was also the best year ever. The first day out we caught 17 black tip and sand sharks! The next day we caught14 more, plus this…take a look!

That’s a bonnethead shark (kinda like a hammerhead). A little over three feet and the absolute limit our lines could catch! I asked God if He would let us have a treat like that. In fact, my exact words were, “Jesus, please let us get a big one, the absolute limit of what our line can get—something we’d have to fight for a while and have a lot of fun with—something different! Just about the next cast out, while I was chest deep in the surf trying to get the line out as far as possible—I turned, took three steps back toward the shore and Barry Bonnethead hit! I was still letting line out, so I’m a little ticked off at Barry for striking while I was trying to let line out. Rope burn! Or, I guess it would be line burn in my case! Anyhow, it was well worth it. Once I locked down the reel, Barry just kept taking line out—the drag was set too low for this monster! So I cranked it. Still too low, but after a couple tries I got it dialed in and the fight began! What a blast!

I love how God is as interested in the little things of our lives—the little details as He is the big stuff!

Oh, and Nathan said it was the best day of his life!

  • I’m exited about finishing up our “Divine” series over the next few weeks. Occasionally we do topical series as well, but my favorites by far are when we go through actual books of the Bible. The gospel of John has taken over a year and a half, but many of you have said it’s been your favorite ever. It’s definitely one of mine. Well, for those of you who have been truly blessed by it, plan on being here for the next three weeks as the ending of this book is a great encouragement for anyone. Oh, and don’t worry about not being here for the beginning or middle—with God’s Word you can jump in at anytime and be just as blessed!

See you all this weekend!
