Truth is, truth does a lot of things. One thing it doesn’t do; however, is nothing.
And people react in strange ways to truth:
- They deny it
- They don’t want to hear it
- They stretch it
- They wield it like a weapon
- They play it like a trump card
- They hold it back
- They let it rip
- They water it down
- They try to stamp it out
- They rewrite it
- Spin it
- Twist it
- Hide it
You’d almost think it were silly putty instead of an intangible deal.
But for all the pushing, prodding, stretching and pulling we put truth through, it remains amazingly resilient. In fact, truth hasn’t changed at all–not one iota.
We change, truth doesn’t.
Christmas is like truth isn’t it. We’ve put this celebration of the birth of Christ through more changes than all the Jackson five put together–but the truth about Christmas just keeps resurfacing year after year.
Whoever said you can’t keep a good man down was right.
Especially when you are talking about the God/Man–Jesus!
What will you celebrate this year?
- Santa
- Presents
- Parties?
- Friends?
- Traditions?
- Decorations?
- Shopping?
What about the birthday boy? It is His day after all. At Southbrook church this year–we kicked off a series entitled, “Foretold” last week. It’s purpose is not only to cut through the mounds of Christmas fluff, but also to show us the truth about Christmas. And the truth is, it was Foretold long ago.
Speaking of predictions and foretelling…Dr. Jimmy Deyoung will be joining me this weekend to pull back the curtain on God’s plan for sending His Son to earth and how detailed it was laid out in the Old Testament. You won’t want to miss this come rain or shine. Invite your friends and family and get a glimpse into not only all that is but even what is yet to be!
