Sunday Evening Mind Dump

Well, we are in week 2 of our Diary of a Wimpy Christian series and it has been a tremendous blessing to see God move in and through His people at Southbrook Church!

  • More than 125 people have given their lives to Christ since we began this series last weekend!
  • Today we had our Newcomer’s Lunch at our Weddington Campus and one at our Monroe Campus. Both were standing room only and by far the biggest ever. 157 @ Weddington and 83 @ Monroe!

  • Lot’s of guests and returning guests this weekend! Both campuses blowing up! But here’s what I like best about the new folks. They seem to have a hunger and desire to go far beyond church attendance. They get it that the local church is a family and I’m seeing a lot more people dig in and join lifegroups and ministries. They have a craving to grow in their faith too. I love it. Meeting Jesus is just the beginning of the wonderful journey with God. There’s so much more. In fact, if I lived a thousand lifetimes I would still not even scratch the surface of all there is to know about so wonderful a Savior!
  • Went with the family to see Mary Poppins at the Belk Theater tonight. Yes, I said Mary Poppins. At first my son, Nathan and I thought about wearing disguises but soon noticed a lot of other dads and boys and felt safe enough to go in. And you know what? It was great. You should go see it! Even if it does cost you your man card for a month!
  • Looking SO forward to challenging all the men of Southbrook on our Monday morning Man Up time, Sept. 13th! Remember guys, it starts at 6:15 sharp and this is the one time you need to bring your sons and daughters (10 and up) with you.
  • Way to go, Brookies! So far we have purchased 160 pairs of shoes for the needy (1 for each first time guest you bring to Southbrook). As soon as I know this weeks number of guests I’ll let you know–cool? But suffice it to say, this has been such a blessing on every front that we have decided to extend the challenge throughout the entire DOWC series. That’s 2 more weeks, so invite, invite, invite!!
  • Know what’s even better than knowing the first time guest you brought also got a pair of shoes to a child in need? Going on one of several “Hit and Run” local mission trips to personally wash the feet of the poor and put the shoes on their feet yourself! Last weekend over 50 people from Southbrook went to poor and hurting area just outside of Charlotte (yes, right here in our own state their are people who cannot even afford shoes–children who will return to school with shoes that are barely holding together) and washed feet, gave the gospel and placed the brand new shoes on the feet of the needy. If you’ve never gone on one of these day trips I encourage you to go! It’s a great way to get your feet wet (no pun intended, really) with missions!
  • Next week we will blow the roof off at both Weddington and Monroe as we celebrate those among the hundreds of new believers this year (so far) who are ready to take that next step and be baptized. There will be a short message before our time of baptism together and then I want to see everyone there to celebrate these changed lives. Baptisms at Southbrook are a BIG DEAL! Second only to that moment of salvation. Come support all of our newest brothers and sisters in Christ as they take the plunge for Jesus!

All and all a great weekend @ Southbrook! This is a place where God is on the move!
