The other day on one of the gazillion blogs I read about some things churches would never do or things that would never change—it got me to thinking. What about us? What about Southbrook? Are there some NEVER’s that it would be helpful to acknowledge at our own church?
Probably.
And some of those are as follows:
- We will NEVER make everyone happy.
- We will NEVER be without a critic.
- We will NEVER have nothing to be thankful for.
- We will NEVER stop preaching the good news to a lost and dying world.
- We will NEVER stop driving people to God’s Word over man’s opinion.
- We will NEVER shirk the hard decisions in place of the comfortable ones.
- We will NEVER be as good alone as we are together.
- We will NEVER better God’s church by huddling in corners talking about everything that’s wrong with it.
- We will NEVER compromise our faith when the pressure increases.
- We will NEVER try to convince people to like Southbrook who don’t.
- We will NEVER cater to ‘people followers’ over Christ followers.
- We will NEVER stop loving Jesus more than anyone or any thing!
- We will NEVER be of the world and not in it.
- We will NEVER change the message.
- We will NEVER keep the method the same for long.
- We will NEVER make everyone happy— oops, I think I said that already. That’s sure to make someone unhappy!
I’ll bet someone is unhappy that this is a list of 16 things instead of 10. Shouldn’t it be 10? Doesn’t it have to be 10?!
