This is a wrap up of a post I started over a week and a half ago. So you will definitely need to click here to get yourself up to speed.
Why do you think it was that the religious leaders of Jesus day kept asking for Jesus to jump through hoops (“They kept demanding a sign.”) when He’s done so may signs and wonders in their midst already? I mean, why would they expect Jesus (or anyone else for that matter) to take them seriously when they claimed they’d believe if they saw a sign?
How many signs does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop?
We never did get the answer to that from the old commercial but I think I can answer the signs one…
Infinity.
That’s right, infinity. In other words, the religious leaders were never going to follow Jesus because He did miracles in front of them.
Never.
Even if he healed blind people.
Nope, not even for that?
Caused the lame to walk?
Nope.
The deaf to hear?
No deal.
What if He raised someone from the dead?
Did that—twice. Made no difference. Hey, they could sit down and have a postmortem conversation with Lazarus (one of the ones Jesus raised from the dead) and it wouldn’t make a bit of difference to them.
In fact they did. And it didn’t.
But that was them—what about us?
You think you can handle the answer to that?
Stay tuned and we’ll see.
