For Such a Time as This
My wife and daughter are big fans of the biblical book of Esther. And what girl wouldn’t be? It’s got a little something for everyone.
- mystery
- a murder plot
- a damsel in distress
- a powerful woman
- a powerful man
- war
- enemies
- friends
- a beauty contest
Woe, hold on, wait a second! What was that last one?
A beauty contest?
Who cares, right?
Well, as it turns out, the winner of that “empire wide” beauty contest went on to become the Winston Churchill of her day! That’s right, she saved her people when they were on the brink of annihilation.
How?
- By using her super-ninja, power ranger, karate moves?
- By batting her eyes at the enemy while her people slipped out the back? Hardly, several million people tend to take quite a while to ‘slip’ out of anywhere.
- By begging and pleading?
No, she saved millions by putting her own life and reputation on the line and telling the truth.
Now I understand that Miss California wasn’t in danger of being hung at high noon for her answer—she was; however, guaranteed to lose the competition she’d spent her whole life preparing for by simply answering a bone-headed question with truth and conviction.
You can read about it here if you are one of the six people left on planet earth who have not heard about the courageous answer of this young lady.
Best part?
She said she’d answer the exact same way if she had it to do all over again.
Why?
Because she knew this was bigger than a “beauty contest moment.” It was a God moment and she did not want to let Him down more than she cared about letting Freddy Flamboyant down. Kinda reminds me of another beauty with brains. See below
For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14
She may not be the new Miss America but a lot of young men might just consider her the next “Miss Perfect” in a sea of spineless, compromising others. Hopefully her spirit and courage will raise up more young people who believe in what’s right over what’s ‘Brittney.’
Lord knows we could use more such individuals. Especially…
