“We’ll Just Have to Agree to Dissagree”

As a student of the scriptures for many, many years (how many is NOYB) and seeing certain biblical issues continue to be debated even a couple thousand years later—I find that (for me) they often fall into one of two categories.

  • Dealbreaker
  • Non-Dealbreaker

A lot of times Christians come to the following cute little (and quite trite) phrase when they don’t wish to put the time into relationships that God demands them to. Ready for it?

Really, really ready?

Ok, here it is…

“We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one.”

AAAAAaaaauuuuggghhhh!!!!

That’s my reaction to this chicken little, lilly livered, yellow bellied response when Christ followers don’t want to do the hard work of repenting and forgiving. Come on, gang, you can’t do an end-around on this stuff. When you do it just makes everything get much, much worse. Nevertheless, at the first sign that something might take more than five minutes or be the least bit frustrating, we throw it out there…

“We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one.”

Or it’s more pious Christian version,

“We may just have to be like Paul and Barnabas on this one.”

That option isn’t truly available as much as we tend to think in the Christian community. Tomorrow I’ll tell you why.
