A lot of times people will throw this phrase out as a sort of ‘trump card.’ Almost as if the accusation shuts down any thought of a legitimate comeback.
“You’re just narrow minded.”
Here are some tired and overused examples. I present them anyway, because they are still wildly popular even though they amount to nothing more than politically correct gobblygoop. Keep in mind, it’s not the examples that are wrong and overused, it’s the “narrow-minded” comeback.
Ex. 1 “Jesus is the only way.”
You’re just narrow minded
Ex. 2 “You shouldn’t talk bad about so and so behind their back. If they’ve offended you the bible says you need to go to them first!”
You’re just narrow-minded.
Ex. 3 “God’s Word says…”
You’re just narrow-minded
I’m guessing that to call someone ‘narrow-minded’ is a put down. Am I right? But (and I’m sure this will come as no surprise) I tend to dissagree. Here’s what God’s Word says:
Matthew 7:13–15
13“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Something to think about.
