This is Day three of the tree house saga. We are actually clipping along pretty well. In fact, we are on about day five as of last week, but the blog needs to catch up!
Can I tell you all a secret?
The real reason for the tree house now (of all times) — right in the midst of a grand opening and so many other things in our lives—is because it gives me the best opportunity for the following with my son:
Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. “Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, “so you will live well and have a long life.” 4Fathers, don’t exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master. Ephesians 6:1–3
I want to lead my children in such a way as they grow up to be godly adults. But that’s not even enough. I want them to grow up to change the world for Jesus. That’s not unusual for a Christian parent, but it is a bit unusual to find Christian parents with a plan to help make this happen. And I’ve pulled the following right from God’s word…

Instruct them (children) according to their bent (the way God shaped them) and they will never stray from it. Proverbs 22:6

Teach them to spend time in God’s Word (the Bible) each and every day. Deuteronomy 17:18–20

Pray continuously, be thankful and rejoice even when everything isn’t going your way. I Thessalonian 5:16–18
The principles of God are broader than this simple list, but it’s a good start. And the tree house?
It’s a great place to teach him these things.
